Toul Cathedral – Ascendance

Spectre Lab conceived and produced Ascendance, a monumental video mapping show projected onto the northern façade of Saint-Étienne Cathedral in Toul.

Inspired by the aesthetics of stained glass windows and the cathedral’s Gothic architecture, this visual creation highlights the building’s spectacular verticality through a dynamic interplay of light, shapes, and graphic transformations. The projected imagery reveals, transforms, and enhances the architecture, offering audiences a fresh perspective on the monument.

The title Ascendance refers to the sense of elevation experienced upon entering the cathedral, as the eye is naturally drawn toward the breathtaking heights of the structure. An immersive experience celebrating both architectural heritage and the evocative power of light.
